India has advised all its citizens residing in Iran to leave the country by all available means, including commercial flights, due to an evolving security situation. The advisory was issued by the Indian embassy in Tehran amid fresh protests and rising concerns over potential military action involving the United States.
Students at several universities have launched anti-government demonstrations, marking the first major unrest since last month’s crackdown on protesters. Indian authorities have urged nationals, including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists, to avoid protest areas, exercise caution and remain in close contact with the embassy.
The embassy has also asked citizens to keep travel and identity documents readily accessible and to seek assistance if needed. Official estimates earlier indicated that more than 10,000 Indians were living in Iran at the start of the year. The advisory comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Israel, which is expected to proceed as planned.
