Defence, trade and Hexagon alliance: What to expect during PM Modi's high-stakes Israel visit | India News - The Times of India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Israel on February 25 and 26 at the invitation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, marking his second trip to the country since becoming the first Indian prime minister to do so in 2017. The earlier visit elevated ties to a strategic partnership. During the upcoming visit, he will hold delegation-level talks with Netanyahu, meet President Isaac Herzog, address the Israeli parliament, attend an innovation event in Jerusalem, and visit the World Holocaust Remembrance Center.

Defence and security cooperation are expected to dominate discussions, with Israel being a key supplier of military platforms and weapon systems to India. Both sides are likely to review ongoing projects and explore new areas of collaboration, including potential elements from Israel’s Iron Dome system for India’s indigenous air defence programme.

Economic engagement will also be a major focus. The two countries recently signed the terms of reference for negotiating a free trade agreement and concluded a bilateral investment agreement. Talks will review cooperation in science and technology, agriculture, water management, trade and people-to-people ties.

The leaders are also expected to discuss regional and global developments, including the situation in Gaza and broader tensions in West Asia. Netanyahu has described the visit as historic and outlined plans for a broader ‘hexagon’ alliance linking India with Arab nations, African countries and Mediterranean states to strengthen coordination among like-minded partners.
