Israeli satire show Eretz Nehederet took on rising tensions between the United States and Iran, opening with a joke that instead of worrying about rain on Purim, Israelis are now worrying about ballistic missiles. The program featured a parody of President Donald Trump repeatedly issuing and extending a 'final deadline' to Iran’s Supreme Leader, complete with musical interludes and exaggerated boasts about a military armada.
In the sketch, Trump pressures Ali Khamenei to sign a nuclear agreement, only to continually push back his ultimatums after Khamenei refuses. The Iranian leader is portrayed hiding in a bunker, making absurd claims about seeking nuclear weapons 'for peaceful purposes' and lamenting the loss of regional allies. The segment mocks both sides’ rhetoric and the drawn out diplomatic brinkmanship.
The episode also satirized domestic controversies, including harassment faced by journalist Lucy Aharish and her husband Tsahi Halevi by right wing activists and a cabinet minister. Additional sketches targeted visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and other political figures. The show closed by promising a Purim special, joking that its return depends on Trump’s will, while affirming optimism about the country.
