A wealthy Israeli businessman attempted to prevent disputes over his estate by inserting a clause in his will stating that any heir who challenged its terms would receive only one shekel. After his death, family members nonetheless took the matter to court, triggering a legal battle over the validity and consequences of the provision.
In a majority ruling, the Tel Aviv District Court sided with the businessman’s children from a previous marriage. The court determined that his widow had forfeited the substantial assets left to her under the will by pursuing legal action.
Despite losing her claim to the larger inheritance, the widow will still receive approximately 5.9 million shekels. The judgment was cleared for publication without disclosing the identities of those involved.
