An anti-capitalist protest in San Francisco organized by the local Democratic Socialists of America chapter was disrupted when a woman began chanting anti-Semitic slogans, including 'tax the Jews' and 'shame on Jews.' The protest took place during an event hosted by Mayor Daniel Lurie that was focused on a proposed tax cut aimed at encouraging stalled housing development projects.
Video footage showed the woman, wearing a keffiyeh, shouting additional remarks such as 'cancel Israel.' The local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America said the woman was not a member and condemned her statements, calling them hateful and unacceptable. However, a local labor leader alleged that several members of the organization participated in the chants, and an attendee claimed the remarks continued for about two minutes without intervention.
The incident follows previous controversy surrounding the national Democratic Socialists of America, which has adopted resolutions prioritizing solidarity with the Palestinian cause and affirming support for positions associated with the Palestine Liberation Organization. Mayor Lurie condemned the rhetoric, calling it anti-Semitic and rejecting what he described as harmful stereotypes targeting the Jewish community.
