Former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a congressional oversight committee that she does not recall ever meeting Jeffrey Epstein and has no information about his criminal activities. In a statement provided ahead of a closed-door deposition in New York, Clinton said she never flew on his plane or visited his properties and had nothing further to add.
Clinton accused the Republican-led panel of attempting to divert attention from former President Donald Trump's past ties to Epstein. She also criticized the Trump administration for weakening a State Department office focused on combating international sex trafficking. Clinton and former President Bill Clinton initially resisted testifying but agreed after lawmakers moved to hold them in contempt of Congress.
Committee Chairman James Comer denied the investigation was partisan, stating that no one is currently accusing the Clintons of wrongdoing and noting that some Democrats supported their testimony. Lawmakers plan to examine any interactions between the Clintons and Epstein, including connections through charitable work and associates. Transcripts of the interviews are expected to be released publicly.
