Fifteen people were killed and at least 30 others injured after a Bolivian Air Force Hercules aircraft crashed in the city of El Alto near La Paz on Friday evening. The plane, which was transporting newly printed banknotes from the country’s central bank, reportedly skidded off the runway after landing in poor weather and slammed onto a busy avenue.

Television footage showed extensive damage to the aircraft and several vehicles on the roadway. Images circulating on social media captured chaotic scenes as bystanders rushed toward the wreckage, with banknotes scattered across the crash site. Authorities used water hoses and tear gas to disperse crowds gathering near the debris.

The accident prompted the temporary closure of El Alto International Airport. Bolivia’s central bank was expected to provide further details as rescue teams continued operations at the scene.
