The Israel Museum has closed its doors and relocated select significant artworks and historical artifacts to a secure location following directives from the Homefront Command amid escalating missile threats from Iran. The move comes as Israel and the United States conduct coordinated military operations against Iranian targets, prompting retaliatory missile fire toward Israeli territory and American bases in the region.
Authorities have urged residents to remain near protected spaces as tensions intensify. In response to the heightened security situation, the museum said it would remain closed to the public until further notice.
The Israel Museum is one of the country’s leading cultural institutions, housing major collections spanning archaeology, fine arts, and Jewish ethnography. Its holdings include biblical-era artifacts, rare manuscripts, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and extensive antiquities from the Second Temple period. Officials did not specify which items were moved or where they were taken for safekeeping.
