Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky voiced support for United States and Israeli strikes on Iran, saying the attacks present an opportunity for Iranians to remove what he called a 'terrorist regime' in Tehran. He argued that weakening the Iranian leadership would improve global security and said it was important to prevent the conflict from widening while preserving as many lives as possible.
Zelensky accused Iran of supplying Russia with thousands of Shahed-type strike drones and missiles used against Ukraine since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. He said more than 57,000 drones had been launched at Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure, adding that although Ukraine never threatened Iran, Tehran chose to side with President Vladimir Putin.
Ukraine's foreign ministry said the Iranian government's repression at home and actions abroad had led to the current escalation. The developments have created uncertainty around planned peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi, especially after Iran carried out retaliatory strikes there. Zelensky said the timing and direction of future negotiations would depend on the security situation and diplomatic conditions.
