United States Ambassador Mike Waltz told the United Nations Security Council that 'this moment in history requires moral clarity' as he defended the recent joint military operation by the United States and Israel against Iran. Speaking during an emergency session requested by Bahrain and France, Waltz said President Donald Trump had acted to protect American citizens and allies.
Waltz described the operation, known as Operation Epic Fury, as targeting Iran’s missile capabilities, naval assets, and networks that arm proxy militias. He said the objective was to prevent Iran from threatening global security and to ensure it could never develop a nuclear weapon.
Citing decades of destabilizing activity, Waltz accused Iran of supporting armed groups such as the Houthis, Hezbollah, and Hamas, and of endangering international shipping and regional stability. Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, also addressed the session, affirming that Israel would not allow Iran to become a nuclear state and would defend its citizens against existential threats.
