Sir Keir Starmer faced intense questioning from Members of Parliament over his stance on recent military action involving the United States and Israel. He said he believed their actions were not right and suggested they may not have been lawful. However, he defended his decision to allow the United States to use United Kingdom airbases to strike Iranian missile launch sites, arguing it was both right and lawful in order to protect British allies in the Gulf.

The debate repeatedly invoked the legacy of the Iraq war, with the prime minister referencing the conflict as central to his current approach. Drawing on his background as a senior lawyer, he emphasised the importance of acting within international law, even as some Conservatives argued that United Kingdom involvement could be justified legally.

Sir Keir faces criticism from multiple sides. Conservatives and Reform representatives say the government should more clearly back the United States and Israel, while the Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Scottish National Party have been more critical of President Trump. Public opinion polling suggests more people in Britain oppose both the American action and the decision to allow use of British airbases than support them.
