Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the joint United States and Israeli military campaign against Iran, saying the strikes were necessary and decisive. He rejected comparisons to long wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, stating that while the conflict could take some time, it would not last for years.
The fighting began with coordinated strikes on Tehran that reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The attacks prompted retaliatory missile and drone strikes across the region, escalating tensions and raising concerns about a broader regional war.
Netanyahu described the offensive as a step toward lasting peace in the Middle East. He also suggested that the conflict could eventually create conditions for the Iranian people to topple their government, even as skepticism grows among Americans about deeper involvement in the region.
