Opposition leader Yair Lapid warned that some of the growing criticism of Israel in United States political discourse reflects 'very ancient' antisemitism rather than new political trends. In an interview with Cable News Network, he said that while legitimate disagreements over Israeli government policy exist, certain attacks are rooted in longstanding hostility toward Jewish people.
Lapid argued that a political alignment of the far right and far left is using similar language to undermine Israel and its alliance with the United States. He described this partnership as vital to the security of both nations and emphasized Israel’s role as a democratic ally in the Middle East.
At the same time, Lapid stressed that not all criticism of Israel should be labeled antisemitic, noting that open debate is part of a healthy friendship between allies. He also reaffirmed his own criticism of the current government as part of his role as opposition leader, while calling for national unity in the face of major security threats.
