Palestinian residents and Israeli activists say extremist settlers have intensified harassment near the West Bank village of Duma, forcing at least two Bedouin compounds to be abandoned this week. The incidents come despite a closed military zone order imposed by the Israel Defense Forces, which was intended to prevent friction in the area. Activists documented settlers entering dwellings with dogs and livestock, confronting residents, and allegedly destroying property while police reportedly failed to intervene.
Human rights groups say the violence has escalated since the outbreak of the conflict with Iran, with dozens of reported incidents across multiple Palestinian communities in recent days. Footage from earlier this week showed masked assailants assaulting residents and activists. Organizations assisting local communities argue that the closure order has barred protective activists from the area while not being enforced against the settlers.
Torat Tzedek and other groups have petitioned authorities to revoke or amend the order, alleging that security forces are enabling the displacement of Palestinians. A recent High Court of Justice ruling stated that such orders require concrete and up to date evidence that activists pose a threat to public order. The military and police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
