Southern Beirut has endured relentless airstrikes by the Israeli military, leaving entire blocks in the Dahiyeh district heavily damaged and largely inaccessible. The area, controlled by Hezbollah, is considered too dangerous for most journalists to enter, with drones and fighter jets constantly overhead and smoke rising above the skyline.
After coordinating with Hezbollah representatives, a news team was briefly escorted beyond the so-called red line separating the city from the declared no-go zone. They were given only two minutes to film a devastated site that Israeli officials describe as command centres and weapons depots, but which Hezbollah claims was a popular local market.
Upon attempting to leave, the team was detained by additional Hezbollah members who blocked their exit and questioned their intentions. As a nearby blast underscored the volatility of the area, armed militiamen eventually allowed them to depart, firing rifles into the air as their vehicle drove away.
