Iranian media reports indicate that a majority within the Assembly of Experts has reached agreement on a successor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, though several obstacles remain unresolved. Mohammad Mehdi Mirbagheri, a member of the body responsible for appointing the next leader, said consensus exists but key issues still need to be settled.
Hossein Mozaffari, another member of the assembly, stated that a meeting to select the new supreme leader would take place within twenty four hours. His remarks contradict reports from Israeli sources and the opposition outlet Iran International, which claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei had already been chosen to succeed his father following his death in the opening strike of Operation Roaring Lion.
