The United States and Israel are reportedly weighing a high risk special forces mission to seize Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Iran is believed to possess roughly 450 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity, a level that experts say could be further refined into weapons grade material within weeks.
The potential operation would involve elite special operations units working alongside nuclear experts to secure materials stored at heavily fortified underground sites, including facilities at Isfahan, Fordow, and Natanz. Officials describe the plan as limited and highly targeted, but analysts caution that such a move would carry significant operational dangers.
Experts warn that any direct incursion into Iranian territory could trigger severe retaliation and spark broader regional escalation. The mission, while focused on preventing further nuclear advancement, is considered one of the most perilous options under discussion in the ongoing conflict.
