Hashomer Hachadash has launched an emergency fundraising campaign in Israel, the United States, and Canada to purchase and deploy at least 100 bomb shelters for farms and rural areas lacking protection. The initiative comes amid the ongoing war with Iran, as farmers continue working in open fields exposed to rocket fire, unmanned aerial vehicles, anti-tank missiles, and frequent sirens.
Founded in 2007, the volunteer-based organization supports agricultural communities through fieldwork, education, and civic engagement. During the war, it has expanded its role to include debris removal, home repairs, guarding rural communities, and mobilizing volunteers to address labor shortages and security pressures.
According to the group, the shortage of shelters has left many orchards, greenhouses, grazing lands, and remote ranches vulnerable, limiting not only farmers' ability to work safely but also preventing volunteers and maintenance crews from accessing the fields. The campaign is framed as both a life-saving measure and a step to protect national food production, rural livelihoods, and the continuity of the food supply during a critical agricultural season.
