Boaz Bismuth, chair of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said Israel has the intelligence and operational plans needed to end the threat posed by Hezbollah and to confront Iran directly. He stated that the military had prepared detailed plans in advance of the current campaign and is determined to break recurring cycles of violence, emphasizing that Israel holds a clear military advantage even if Hezbollah continues fighting.
Bismuth identified eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat and weakening the Iranian regime as central war objectives. He argued that Iran represents a global danger and said Israel’s role is to create conditions that could enable political change, while leaving leadership decisions to the Iranian people. Drawing on his past experience visiting Iran, he described the regime as harmful to its own citizens and expressed respect for those seeking change.
Addressing domestic matters, Bismuth confirmed that controversial legislation concerning military conscription for the ultra Orthodox community has been temporarily set aside to preserve unity during the war. He said the bill would be advanced again after the conflict, maintaining that the armed forces require additional personnel and that the proposal strikes a necessary balance. For now, he said, the committee’s focus remains on winning the war and passing the state budget.
