National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has been accompanied in recent months by Osher Gabbay, a far-right activist with multiple criminal convictions for violence and threats against Palestinians, according to a report by Haaretz. Gabbay, 28, has reportedly served as an aide without security clearance while joining the minister on sensitive visits, including to the site of an Iranian missile strike in Beersheba and to security wings in Ofer and Gilboa prisons.
Gabbay was convicted in 2017 for assaulting a Palestinian in Jerusalem, after admitting he attacked random Arabs following a terrorist attack. He later pleaded guilty to making threats against a Palestinian and served a three-month prison sentence. He has also been arrested in connection with clashes involving Palestinians and police, and has taken part in protests that escalated into unrest.
The report alleged that since the start of the war with Iran, Gabbay shared details about Iranian missile launches in messaging groups, including estimates of missile numbers and strike locations. Gabbay denied having access to classified information, saying he is employed by Ben Gvir's Otzma Yehudit party and does not handle sensitive material. Ben Gvir himself has past convictions related to incitement to racism and supporting a terror organization prior to entering politics.
