War Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered the creation of a task force to review senior service colleges, saying they must focus strictly on preparing military leaders for combat rather than promoting what he described as 'woke' ideology. In a public message, he said professional military education should develop warfighters and leaders, not individuals shaped by political trends.
The task force, directed under the undersecretary for personnel and readiness, will evaluate institutions such as the Army War College, National Defense University, Naval War College, Marine Corps University, and Air War College. Hegseth said the review will determine whether these schools are effectively educating senior officers and maintaining a clear focus on warfighting.
He added that the review will take 90 days and warned that any courses or ideologies resembling those he criticized in civilian universities would be removed. The announcement comes as the United States continues military operations against Iran alongside Israel, underscoring his emphasis on combat readiness.
