A report alleges that Rama Duwaji, the wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, shared social media posts in her teenage years and early twenties that praised Palestinian militants and criticized Israel and the United States. The posts, which were published on X and Tumblr and are now inactive, were linked to Duwaji through facial recognition technology and other identifying details, though the claims could not be independently verified.
Among the posts cited were images of Leila Khaled, who participated in plane hijackings as a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, along with messages expressing support for Palestinian 'freedom fighters.' Other posts referenced the Palestinian Liberation Organization during the First Intifada and included statements criticizing American soldiers and asserting that Tel Aviv 'shouldn't exist.'
The report follows earlier controversies involving Duwaji, including allegations that she liked posts related to the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and disputed reports of sexual violence during that assault. Mayor Mamdani said at a press conference that his wife is a private person who has held no formal role in his campaign or city administration. Additional scrutiny has also focused on her past illustration work for a writer known for strong anti Zionist views and inflammatory statements about Jews.
