Police in northeastern Germany are searching for a semi trailer loaded with 15 tons of gummy candy that disappeared from a highway rest area. Authorities have launched a manhunt and are asking witnesses to report any suspicious vehicle movements or individuals seen near the scene. As of Wednesday evening, the cargo had not been recovered.

The trailer, valued at about 250,000 euros, was taken Tuesday from a truck stop in Neustadt Glewe in the Ludwigslust Parchim district. A 41 year old driver parked the vehicle at around 7:45 a.m. and returned at about 8:45 p.m. to find the trailer missing while the truck itself remained in place.

Investigators say it is unclear how the thieves removed the white Schmitz Cargobull trailer without being noticed at a busy rest stop along a major highway. The unit, marked with the inscription Transport + Logistik Bavaria, has been placed on a wanted list as the search continues.
