The United States administration has issued a 30 day sanctions waiver allowing the sale of Iranian oil loaded at sea, aiming to ease global energy supply pressures following the outbreak of war between the United States and Israel and Iran. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the move would temporarily unlock significant existing supply and help stabilize markets.

According to the Treasury Department, the waiver permits the sale of Iranian crude oil and petroleum products loaded between March 20 and April 19. Officials estimate the measure could bring roughly 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, increasing available supply and helping to contain price increases during the conflict.

The waiver does not authorize transactions involving individuals or entities linked to North Korea, Cuba, certain sanctioned regions of Ukraine, or Crimea. It also does not override other restrictions imposed under separate executive orders.
