Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps deployed about 100 officers to Lebanon following a November 2024 ceasefire to rebuild Hezbollah after heavy losses in its war with Israel. The restructuring came after the killing of long‑time leader Hassan Nasrallah and other senior commanders, marking an unprecedented level of direct Iranian involvement in the group's military recovery.

According to sources familiar with the effort, the Iranian officers worked to repair command structures that had been compromised by Israeli intelligence and helped reorganize Hezbollah's military infrastructure. They were also involved in supervising and executing strategic war planning as the group prepared for what it viewed as an inevitable renewed conflict.

The rebuilding effort enabled Hezbollah to reenter the current regional war, launching hundreds of missiles into Israel since early March. Israel responded with a ground offensive in southern Lebanon, where fighting has led to significant territorial seizures and more than 1,000 reported deaths.
