The United States is attempting to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ease a growing global energy crisis by targeting Iranian sites it says are linked to attacks on oil tankers in the Persian Gulf. The waterway is a crucial artery for global oil shipments, making any disruption a significant threat to international markets.
According to Britain's Telegraph, however, the most serious danger to commercial shipping may not come from easily visible military assets. Instead, Iran is believed to rely on a fleet of small submarines built specifically for operations in the Gulf’s shallow and murky waters.
These compact vessels are difficult to detect and track, giving Iran a stealth advantage in a region where larger naval ships and aircraft face operational challenges. Their presence underscores a strategic approach aimed at exploiting the geography of the Strait of Hormuz to counter more advanced military forces.
