President Donald Trump's approval rating has fallen to 36 percent, the lowest level since his return to the White House, according to a new Reuters and Ipsos poll. The decline follows a sharp rise in fuel prices and growing public dissatisfaction with the war he launched against Iran in coordination with Israel.
Public frustration over the cost of living appears to be a major factor in the drop. Only 25 percent of respondents said they approve of Trump's handling of living costs, as gasoline prices have climbed since the military strikes began in late February. While his overall support within the Republican Party remains relatively strong, disapproval among Republicans over his management of living costs has increased.
Support for the military action itself has also weakened. Just 35 percent of Americans said they approve of the strikes on Iran, while 61 percent expressed opposition. Despite Trump's declining popularity, the poll suggests Republican candidates maintain a slight edge over Democrats on economic stewardship ahead of the November midterm elections.
