The United States has rejected what it called 'ridiculous and unrealistic' demands from Iran as conditions for ending the current conflict. Tehran has called for the closure of all United States military bases in the Middle East, financial compensation for damage caused by strikes inside Iran, and the creation of a new system in the Strait of Hormuz that would allow Iran to collect transit fees from passing ships, similar to Egypt’s model in the Suez Canal.
Iran is also seeking firm guarantees that hostilities will not resume, including a halt to future strikes by Israel and the United States and an end to Israeli attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon. In addition, Tehran has demanded the removal of all sanctions while refusing any limits on its missile program and rejecting negotiations on that issue.
Officials in Washington dismissed the proposals outright, signaling that the wide gap between the two sides remains a major obstacle to any diplomatic resolution.
