Two Ukrainian military drones entered the airspace of Estonia and Latvia via Russia on Wednesday, with one striking a chimney at Estonia's Auvere power station and the other crash landing in Latvia. Authorities said there were no injuries or damage reported.
Officials in both Baltic countries said the drones were part of a broader Ukrainian attack targeting Russian oil facilities near the Baltic Sea. Around the same time, Russian authorities reported fires at oil terminals in Primorsk and Ust-Luga, key export hubs located close to Estonia and Finland.
A third drone briefly crossed into Latvian airspace from Belarus before returning to Russia, while Lithuania reported earlier in the week that another Ukrainian drone had crashed into a lake after going off course. Baltic leaders said the incidents highlight growing regional security risks stemming from Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and underscored challenges in air defense across the North Atlantic Treaty Organization alliance.
