National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir carried out a surprise visit to a prison facility in central Israel on Friday, disguising himself as a prison guard to observe operations firsthand. Accompanied by the Commissioner of the Israel Prison Service, he monitored staff conduct, operational vigilance, and adherence to procedures during an early morning shift.
After the visit, Ben-Gvir praised what he described as a significant transformation within the prison system, highlighting improved order, stricter guidelines, and stronger enforcement. He commended several units and facilities for what he called their role in restoring governance and strengthening the organization’s deterrence.
The minister also announced plans to revise the longstanding strip search procedure for incoming detainees and prisoners. While emphasizing that security remains paramount, he said the updated policy would allow for more measured and professional discretion in certain cases.
