The Israeli military said it carried out airstrikes on Iran's heavy water plant in Arak and a uranium extraction facility in Yazd, describing the sites as key components of Tehran's nuclear program. According to the Israeli military, the Arak facility was originally designed to enable the production of weapons grade plutonium and has not been fully converted despite international commitments.
Officials said the Arak plant also serves as a significant economic asset for Iran, generating substantial revenue each year. The site had previously been struck during Operation Rising Lion, and recent reconstruction efforts were identified before it was targeted again.
In a separate strike, Israeli forces hit what they described as Iran's only uranium extraction plant in Yazd. The facility processes raw materials for uranium enrichment, marking what the military called the beginning of the production chain for nuclear weapons. Israel said the strikes were intended to undermine Iran's nuclear weapons development, which it characterized as an existential threat.
