The United States has reportedly begun deploying anti tank land mines near the outskirts of Shiraz in southern Iran as part of its ongoing war effort against Tehran, according to a report by The Washington Post and claims from Iranian media. Munitions experts cited in the report identified the devices seen in recent social media posts as American BLU 91 slash B anti tank mines delivered by aircraft using the Gator mine scattering system. Experts noted that the United States is the only country known to possess this system.

The mines were reportedly discovered about four kilometers from a major ballistic missile site near Shiraz, where mobile launchers are typically positioned. Analysts said the placement of the mines could hinder the movement of these launchers and limit their ability to carry out attacks. The United States Central Command declined to comment on the reports.

Iranian media outlets reported casualties linked to the devices, with at least one person said to have been killed. Authorities warned civilians to avoid suspicious metal objects, amid claims that some of the mines were modified to resemble food containers. A video circulating online allegedly showed one of the devices exploding, though no injuries were visible in the footage.
