Maureen Lipman, 79, talks 'rare and precious' romance with new husband

Maureen Lipman has spoken about finding love again in her late seventies after marrying businessman David Turner in an intimate ceremony in London six months ago. The actress, 79, said their relationship quickly felt lifelong, explaining that being with him felt like 'coming home' and that she soon realised she wanted to be with him '24/7'. She described their happiness as 'rare and precious' and said she wished others her age could experience the same joy.

Turner, 80, had been grieving the loss of his wife of 50 years, whom he cared for during her battle with Alzheimer's disease. He admitted the heartbreak of watching her decline but said his growing bond with Lipman, and his desire to care for her if needed, convinced him to remarry. Reflecting on ageing, he noted that time feels more fleeting in later life and that they are determined to make whatever years they have together as happy as possible.

Lipman, who was previously married to writer Jack Rosenthal and later lost long-term partner Guido Castro, proposed to Turner herself during a train journey. Their children responded warmly to the news. As she prepares to tour with her new show, she acknowledged that time apart will be difficult, adding that her new marriage has shifted her priorities and deepened her appreciation for the life they are building together.
