Violence carried out by Jewish extremists in the West Bank has long accompanied the settlement movement, though those responsible represent only a small fringe minority. Their actions do not reflect the values of the hundreds of thousands of settlers who live in the area.
Religious and community leaders have repeatedly denounced such attacks over the years. However, the recent escalation demonstrates that verbal condemnation alone has failed to curb the problem.
The persistence and apparent growth of this violence highlight the need for more decisive and effective measures to confront and eliminate this troubling phenomenon.
