An Iranian spy network has allegedly conducted propaganda and intelligence-gathering operations in the United Kingdom under the cover of the state-run English-language outlet Press Television, according to a source cited by The Jerusalem Post after initial reporting by The Telegraph. The source claimed that Britain’s 'permissive environment' has been exploited by Tehran, with reporting on dissidents and the Jewish community said to amount to a potential 'target list for terrorists.'
Although Press Television lost its broadcast license from the Office of Communications in 2012 and was banned from major online platforms, it has continued publishing through social media and has featured appearances by various activists and political figures. The Community Security Trust, which protects Jewish institutions in Britain, said the outlet repeatedly reported on Jewish schools and named several Jewish charities it described as hostile organizations.
Security specialists warned that Press Television is part of a broader network of regime-affiliated entities operating in London that may not appear on sanctions lists but are seen as advancing Tehran’s objectives. Experts also alleged that some journalists used media credentials to identify recruitment targets and facilitate intelligence work, citing past cases in which individuals were recruited under the guise of journalism.
