A Pakistani national has admitted to planning an attack on a prominent Jewish center in New York City in support of the Islamic State group. Federal prosecutors said Muhammad Khan intended to carry out the assault as an act of terrorism motivated by extremist ideology.
Authorities disrupted the plot before Khan was able to reach the United States, following an investigation led by the New York Joint Terrorism Task Force. Officials said the swift action prevented a potentially deadly attack targeting a religious community.
The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York said the guilty plea underscores that terrorism and hate-based violence have no place in the city. He added that law enforcement remains committed to protecting religious groups and ensuring they can gather safely and without fear.
