Metula, Israel's northernmost town, sits on the border with Lebanon and is surrounded on three sides by Lebanese territory. Its location makes it one of the first communities hit when rockets are launched from across the border.
Israeli authorities report that 12 soldiers and two civilians have been killed by rockets fired by Hezbollah over the past six weeks. The armed group, which is backed by Iran, has continued attacks as cross-border violence escalates.
In Lebanon, local officials say more than 2,000 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since fighting resumed on 2 March, following a Hezbollah attack on Israel. The ongoing exchange has intensified fears among residents on both sides of the border.
