President Donald Trump has called for late night host Jimmy Kimmel to be fired by the American Broadcasting Company and its parent company Walt Disney following a controversial monologue and a weekend shooting incident. In a parody segment about the upcoming White House correspondents' dinner, Kimmel joked that First Lady Melania Trump 'had a glow like an expectant widow,' a remark both the president and first lady condemned.

The criticism came after a shooting at the Washington Hilton during the correspondents' dinner, where a suspect charged through a checkpoint and fired at Secret Service agents, wounding one before being subdued. Trump later said he was not worried during the incident, though he described the first lady as very upset. Security escorted the couple from the ballroom shortly after the gunfire.

Melania Trump described Kimmel's comments as corrosive and accused him of spreading hate, urging the network to take action. Donald Trump said the joke went far beyond acceptable boundaries and repeated his demand that Kimmel be removed from the air. Neither the network nor its parent company immediately responded.

The dispute has renewed debate over free speech and political pressure on broadcasters. In the past, the president and the head of the Federal Communications Commission have pushed broadcasters over Kimmel's content, drawing criticism from media figures and lawmakers who warn against government interference in programming decisions.
