OneFamily was founded in the aftermath of the deadly bombing at a Jerusalem pizza restaurant that killed 16 civilians, including children and a pregnant woman, and wounded more than 130 others. The attack, which occurred during the early years of the Second Intifada, deeply affected the nation and inspired a grassroots response to support victims of terror.
The organization began as a bat mitzvah project led by Michal Belzberg, whose family had immigrated to Israel from North America in 1992. What started as a small act of compassion grew into a nationwide network providing emotional, financial, and rehabilitative support to victims and their families.
Over time, OneFamily became a central lifeline for those coping with trauma and loss, transforming personal tragedy into sustained national solidarity. Its work has since been recognized as a vital contribution to Israeli society, earning its founder the Israel Prize.
