British Jews are reporting a sharp rise in antisemitic abuse, with many saying they no longer feel safe openly expressing their identity. Amanda, a long-standing community volunteer and school governor in a London suburb, says she has been spat at, called a baby killer, and received a death threat because she is Jewish.
Once proud to wear a Star of David necklace without hesitation, Amanda now fears the symbol makes her a target. She describes daily life as increasingly uncomfortable for Jewish people in the United Kingdom, with routine activities bringing the risk of harassment.
In private conversations among friends, many of whom are descendants of refugees who once viewed the country as a safe haven, discussions have shifted toward leaving. According to Amanda, nearly everyone she knows is considering an exit plan, with some already preparing to move abroad amid growing concerns about their safety and future.
