Chaos erupted Tuesday night at the University of California, Los Angeles, when left-wing activists disrupted a speech by James Percival, general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security, during an event hosted by the campus chapter of the Federalist Society. More than 150 protesters gathered outside chanting slogans against the Trump administration, while demonstrators inside the venue repeatedly interrupted the speech with boos, shouted insults, and profane signs.

Students set off noises from their phones and shouted accusations throughout Percival’s remarks, at times calling him a Nazi. The disruption continued until a question and answer session began, when many of the protesters walked out. Organizers said the event was intended to be a good-faith academic discussion but was derailed by coordinated interference.

Several campus groups had circulated online posts and petitions ahead of the event condemning Percival’s appearance and accusing federal immigration authorities of discriminatory practices. Videos of the disruption spread widely on social media, drawing criticism from conservative legal figures who argued that universities are failing to protect free speech. The incident adds to ongoing tensions over political expression and speaker events on college campuses nationwide.
