Israel's long-running sketch comedy show Eretz Nehederet closed its twenty-third season on Wednesday night, capping months of satire produced during one of the country's most turbulent periods. Air raid alerts frequently interrupted broadcasts as audiences rushed to bomb shelters, only to return moments later in search of humor and relief. The season began shortly after the final living hostages held in Gaza were released, featuring a moving appearance by former captive Alon Ohel that became one of the show's most memorable moments.
Throughout the season, the program lampooned daily life during wartime, from crowded shelters and emotional eating to political tensions and international diplomacy. Sharp parodies targeted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and United States President Donald Trump, imagining strained conversations about ceasefires, military promises, and Independence Day festivities. The annual torch-lighting ceremony also came under comedic scrutiny for its political tone and lack of young participants.
The finale blended satire with reflection, including musical sketches about life under missile fire and a parody of a classic army entertainment troupe updated with lyrics about alerts and shattered windows. In the closing moments, the cast removed their wigs and costumes, and host Eyal Kitzis expressed hope that the coming year would bring healing, rebuilding, and peace, reminding viewers of the resilience and spirit that carried them through the season.
