Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has reportedly resigned from leading negotiations with the United States, according to an unsourced television report. The report claims he stepped down from overseeing talks with Washington and mediation efforts led by Pakistan due to increasing interference from generals in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The reported dispute centered on a proposal from Qatar aimed at reducing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. The plan would have permitted 20 Iranian vessels to pass through the waterway in exchange for 20 ships from Arab Gulf ports receiving the same access.
According to the report, the proposal was ultimately blocked by Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, highlighting internal divisions over how to manage diplomatic engagement and regional maritime security.
