The Israel Defense Forces said a dog from its canine unit was killed during an operation in the southern Lebanon town of Bint Jbeil after uncovering a group of Hezbollah gunmen. Troops from the Paratroopers Brigade had identified suspicious signs at the entrance to a building in the town's fortified quarter, including fresh food and military equipment.
A drone and the military dog were deployed to scan the site before soldiers entered. The dog exposed the position of six gunmen inside the building and was shot dead shortly afterward. The soldiers then used the drone to track the gunmen as they fled to the rooftop.
Within about ninety minutes of the initial identification, Israeli forces killed all six gunmen using small arms fire, tank shelling and an explosive drone, according to the military.
