President Donald Trump is sending Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and his son in law Jared Kushner to Pakistan for direct talks with Iranian representatives. The Vice President is not currently scheduled to attend, as his Iranian counterpart will also be absent, but he remains on standby should negotiations advance. The talks follow an earlier round of discussions and come amid continued tensions between the two countries.

Trump recently extended a ceasefire in Iran for an unspecified period to allow its leadership time to present a proposal for a broader agreement. He has maintained a naval blockade and said it will remain in place until Iran submits an acceptable plan.
