Iran said it executed Erfan Kiani, whom authorities described as an operative working for Israeli intelligence, accusing him of vandalism, arson and spreading fear during nationwide protests. State media reported that he was hanged after his sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court and legal procedures were completed.
The execution comes as Tehran and Washington are engaged in negotiations over their ongoing conflict. United States President Donald Trump recently called on Iranian leaders to halt executions of protesters and urged the release of eight women reportedly facing imminent execution.
In a separate development, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced raids against Kurdish anti government groups in the western city of Kermanshah. State media said hundreds were detained and weapons were seized, alleging the groups were backed by the United States and Israel.
