Israel has told the United States that negotiations with the Lebanese government must be limited to two to three weeks, aiming for a final agreement by mid-May. According to a report by Channel 12 News, Israeli leaders believe that prolonged talks will further weaken security conditions along the northern border.
Officials argue that continued attacks by Hezbollah, including drone launches and fire toward military forces and northern communities, are eroding the chances of a successful agreement. They say the current restrictions placed on Israeli military operations are harming both deterrence and the safety of residents.
Israel has informed the United States administration that if no deal is reached within the proposed timeframe, it will seek approval from President Donald Trump to move forward with a significantly broader military campaign. At present, Israeli forces in southern Lebanon remain in a response posture, with any expanded operations requiring direct political authorization and most deep strikes largely avoided.
