A Lebanese television channel sparked controversy after airing a video that portrayed Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem and the group's fighters as characters from the mobile game 'Angry Birds', battling the Israeli army depicted as green pigs. Hezbollah condemned the segment as offensive and degrading to political discourse, urging its supporters not to be drawn into the dispute.
The clip prompted backlash on social media, with some Hezbollah supporters responding by posting insults directed at Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai, Lebanon's top Christian cleric. President Joseph Aoun denounced attacks on religious figures from both Christian and Muslim communities and called for restraint amid the country's fragile situation.
The incident comes at a time of heightened tensions in Lebanon, where cross-border fighting between Hezbollah and Israel has escalated following renewed rocket fire and airstrikes. Since early March, thousands have been killed and around one million displaced, according to Lebanese authorities, as violence continues despite a previous ceasefire agreement.
