A former Columbia University professor, Mohamed Abdou, delivered a speech at Virginia Tech calling for the end of the United States as part of his 'Death to the Akademy' tour. Video clips shared online show Abdou telling students that they are part of a 'racial religious war' and describing the United States as a 'monster' and a 'crusading settler colony.' He said that when he says 'Death to America,' he means a total end to the United States empire.
Abdou, who was previously barred from teaching at Columbia University after expressing support for Hamas, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad, praised the October 7 attacks as the 'blessed day of Al-Aqsa Flood.' He referred to student activists as a 'branch of the resistance' and encouraged them to disrupt the American weapons industry by targeting supply chains and other pressure points.
During the speech, Abdou also discussed Adolf Hitler, urging students to 'understand what Hitler stands for' before claiming that the modern Zionist entity reflects a 'Hitlerite mentality.' Virginia Tech stated that the event was not sponsored or registered by the university. Neither the university nor Abdou responded to requests for comment.
