Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International deleted an animated video that portrayed Hezbollah members as characters inspired by the game Angry Birds after a judicial order from the public prosecutor at the Court of Cassation. The video depicted Hezbollah Secretary General Naim Qassem as one of the birds in a parody format.
Hezbollah condemned the animation as containing 'offensive and cheap insults that degrade political discourse to a repulsive level.' Supporters of the group responded online with insults directed at Maronite Patriarch Beshara al Rahi, escalating sectarian tensions.
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri criticized attacks on religious and national symbols, while President Joseph Aoun called for restraint and urged citizens to avoid personal insults. He emphasized the need for national unity and respect for spiritual leaders amid the country’s ongoing challenges.
